Answers all your questions"
Is the razor suitable for all areas?
Yes! You can use it to shave your bikini area, underarms, and all so-called sensitive areas. BUT we won’t lie to you—just like with a “classic” razor, you need to be gentle in these areas. But you already know that, haha.
How long do the blades last and how much do they cost?
Let’s take the example of Lena, the co-founder of Smooth, to illustrate the durability of our blades. In general, Lena shaves every 4 days (although sometimes she waits a bit longer). She changes the blade after at least 2 months, but she would actually say after 3 months (since she takes good care of it).
With a pack of 20 blades (free of charge), she has enough for 5 years of shaving (which is crazy, lol). However, if you shave every day (that’s 30 shaving days per blade), you get about 2 years of shaving! Two years of shaving with the 20-pack costs you exactly £3.75.
With the 100-pack, which lasts 10 years (or longer), you shave for £2.29 per year!!!
To put it in Lena’s terms: if she buys the pack of 100 blades, she uses 4–5 blades per year, which already gives her 20 years of shaving 😅. For someone who shaves daily, that’s about 10 years. Nothing is more economical and eco-friendly 🥰.
However, depending on your usage and how you care for your razor (never just rinse it…), you might need to change your blade more often. The general rule is: if shaving starts to feel uncomfortable, you should replace the blade.
I’m afraid I might cut myself with it — do I have to use it?
Many of you were afraid at first, but a lot of people have told us that in the end, it’s actually safer than a regular razor. Amazing, right? As the name suggests, it’s a safety razor — it may look a bit intimidating, but compared to other safety razors, we’ve worked on improving safety in the head area to reduce the number of cuts to zero. So unlike with others, you won’t cut yourself.
Can I use a safety razor without shaving soap/cream/oil?
Good question! Generally, we advise against “dry shaving” to avoid irritation and cuts, and instead recommend moistening the skin with soap. But everyone wants to quickly shave a few body areas sometimes (I’m especially thinking of my ankles, haha), and that’s okay too.
Can the razor be used in the shower? Can I also leave it in the shower?
Our razors are specially designed to resist water and especially rust (unlike some low-quality safety razors…). You can leave it in your shower without any problem, but make sure to dry it thoroughly. Depending on where you live, the water may be very hard. In that case, we recommend cleaning it a bit more often (simply open the razor head, where the blade sits, and rinse it out). If you want to keep it for as long as possible, we recommend storing it dry.
What is the difference compared to other safety razors?
Good question! Maybe you’ve seen similar razors? But as you might expect, these have nothing in common with our razor. Why?
• They are not made in the same way and not of the same quality. This means they rust and break very quickly. Smooth is a razor for a lifetime!
• The likelihood of cutting yourself with other razors is higher! We have worked on developing a much safer razor head to reduce the number of cuts to zero. And yes, no more of the myth of a safety razor that cuts with every stroke.
How do I shave with a safety razor?
Here are the steps for the perfect shave with the Smooth Razor:
- Moisten your skin with warm water. Use a peeling glove, exfoliant, etc., to prevent ingrown hairs. Use shaving soap, shaving oil, or any other product you are accustomed to.
- Check that the razor head is mounted correctly, like this:
See picture
Important: Hold the razor head firmly from the side so that the blade cannot move. - Hold your razor at a 30–35 degree angle and shave in short strokes. This makes it easier to adjust the angle and gives you better control over the razor.
- Apply little to no pressure; the weight of the razor is enough.
- Pay special attention to the areas around the knee, ankle, and the back of the ankle. These areas are the most dangerous!
- Keep your legs warm and moist to prevent goosebumps and razor irritation.
- Getting used to the safety razor may take a little longer than a "classic" razor, but it’s definitely worth it!

Where is it made?
Since we are working to manufacture all our products, wherever possible, 100% in the UK, we are proud that our solid soap (cold saponified), balm & scrub are handcrafted in Thonon-les-Bains, the UK, and are 100% natural and of plant-based origin—just like the dry oil! The glove is made in Turkey with respect for tradition and craftsmanship. As for the razor, we are working on producing it in the UK, which, to be honest, is very complicated, but we haven’t given up hope. Currently, however, it is produced in Guangdong province according to European standards.
Does the razor rust?
In 95% of cases, no (we’ll explain the remaining 5% in a moment)! Thanks to the materials we use, our razor does not rust, and the same goes for the blades. It is specifically designed to be water-resistant, so you can safely use it in the shower. However, we recommend rinsing it with cold water and drying it after each use.
Why? Depending on where you live, the water may have a high mineral content (hard water), which over time could even affect our razor (and this applies to all safety razors). If you shave frequently, it’s best to make this a habit each time you change the blade. For example, it’s important to disassemble the razor, rinse it thoroughly, and then dry it with a cloth.
How do I insert the blade?
Hold the razor handle with one hand and twist the base with the other hand.
- Unscrew the handle and remove the razor head.
- Carefully place the blade between the two top parts, with the smooth, flat side facing the handle.
- Reassemble everything by screwing the handle back on. The direction of the blade doesn’t matter, as it is the same on both sides.
Can you take a razor on a plane?
Yes, of course! But be careful: you have to remove the blade first (if it’s carry-on luggage).
Is the razor suitable for men?
Smooth is a gender-neutral brand, so as a man, you can use it on your body or face!
Is the wooden razor water- and moisture-resistant?
Don’t worry—the wood has been treated to prevent mold growth when in contact with water and moisture. When we say it lasts a lifetime, we really mean it!
How do I maintain my razor?
Even though our razor can last a lifetime, it’s important to take care of it to preserve its quality and ensure a fantastic shave.
- Clean regularly: Rinse the razor under warm water after each use. This removes hair, soap, and dead skin cells that can accumulate and clog the blades.
- Occasional disassembly: From time to time, carefully take your razor apart for a deeper clean. Make sure to rinse and dry all parts thoroughly before reassembling the razor.
- Drying: Let the razor air dry in a dry, well-ventilated place to prevent bacterial growth. Never store a wet razor in a closed space or a cosmetic bag.
- Blade replacement: Replace the blade as soon as you notice it becoming dull. A dull blade can cause cuts and skin irritation. How often you need to change the blade depends on how frequently you shave and how thick your hair is, but generally, it should be replaced every 5 to 10 uses (you can flip the blade to the unused side to get an additional 5 to 10 uses).
- Avoid harsh chemicals: Do not use strong cleaners or chemicals on your safety razor. These can damage the material and render the razor unusable.
And that’s it!
Is your razor suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive?
Yes! It is even recommended for people with sensitive skin, who often have problems with other razors. Since it has only one blade and usually requires only a few strokes, it is perfect for sensitive skin. Together with a good routine (exfoliation, shaving soap, aftershave oil), it will be your ally against sensitivities.
Are your products suitable for all skin types?
No matter whether your skin is atopic or just sensitive – our soap, oil, razor, glove, balm & scrub are suitable for everyone! Especially for those with skin concerns: blemishes, razor irritation, ingrown hairs/strawberry skin…
What is the difference between oil and balm?
The main difference between our dry oil and our moisturizing cream lies in their composition, texture, and function.
Dry Oil:
- Texture: Light, quickly absorbed by the skin.
- Composition: Formulated with oils like jojoba, rosehip, apricot kernel, and borage, which balance, nourish, and heal the skin.
- Use: Perfect for daily hydration, absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy feeling. Ideal for underarms and the bikini area due to its fast absorption, but just as good for legs! Its specific ingredients also make it suitable for preventing ingrown hairs, irritation, and itching – a solution for anyone struggling after shaving or hair removal.
Moisturizing Cream:
- Texture: Richer and creamier than dry oil.
- Composition: Based on shea butter, enriched with other butters and oils for intense and soothing moisture.
- Use: Designed for intensive hydration, ideal for very dry or irritated skin after shaving (such as “crocodile skin,” keratosis pilaris, etc.). It soothes and regenerates your skin.
In summary: While our dry oil is ideal for light hydration and sensitive areas, our moisturizing cream provides more intensive and soothing hydration.
Feel free to incorporate both into your routine to find what works best for you!
Is it suitable for beginners?
Yes, of course. But it’s naturally a razor you don’t juggle, lol. With a safety razor, it’s important not to apply pressure, as the weight of the razor is sufficient, and to maintain a good angle. Honestly, it’s very rare to cut yourself with it, especially now that we’ve reinforced the safety of the razor head.

What is a safety razor?
Safety razors have been forgotten in favor of disposable plastic razors (and yes, the plastic industry seems economical at first glance, but it makes us buy the same product weekly, monthly, yearly…). They have been around much longer than these new razors with their care strips, and yet they are far superior. Characterized by the use of a single stainless steel blade that is replaced by unscrewing the razor head (more details in our videos), and made from much more durable materials, these razors are built to last a lifetime.
Little known or still surrounded by prejudices—“You can cut yourself with that,” “That’s for men”…—it offers the smoothest shave you will ever experience. Even more so thanks to the work we’ve done at Smooth: we’ve adapted the razor head so it can be used on the body (remember, the safety razor is old and was often designed for men’s faces…).
What is the difference between the sisal exfoliating glove and the raspberry scrub?
Sisal Glove: The sisal glove offers a gentle, natural exfoliation similar to a sugar scrub, stimulates blood circulation, and removes dead skin cells. It is perfect for regular care of the arms, legs, and the whole body. Its texture may feel a bit rough for sensitive skin. You need to moisten your skin before use.
Sugar Scrub: This unique blend of sugar and nourishing oils works in two steps. The sugar gently removes impurities, while the oils provide intense hydration. It is specifically designed for areas that need extra attention, such as the bikini zone. In addition to exfoliating, it prepares the skin and protects it for the rest of your routine. Perfect if you have major shaving issues and want very, very soft skin (although oil or balm also works). For best results, apply the scrub to dry skin. Then rinse it off so it transforms into a milky texture (which must be rinsed off) and enjoy all its benefits.
In short: Both products guarantee gently exfoliated skin, but the sisal glove is ideal for a quick scrub without special concerns, while the sugar scrub is better suited for sensitive areas and specific needs.
